Deal or No Deal - 2nd-8th July

A run of average results this week, including one game we will be remembering for a while to come.

Monday 2nd: Jean

Winnings: £12,000
Dealt at: 8-box
Highest offer: £24,000 (5-box)
Box value: £100

Nice pleasant game to start the week. The deal was slightly cautious, and Jean could have doubled her money, but still a fairly good result.

Tuesday 3rd: Damien

Winnings: £11,750
Dealt at: 5-box
Highest offer: £23,000 (11-box)
Box value: £250

Another game where the third offer was the highest, thus going against Noel's common claim that third offer deals don't usually work. However, with all the Power 5 in play, Damien was right to go on. Alas, the game began to fall apart afterwards, and it was a question of when to jump out on the way down. In the end, he settled for the decent 5-box offer, which was a sensible call, both statistically, and in terms of the game. Another good result.

Wednesday 4th: Katie

Winnings: £8,000
Dealt at: 8-box
Highest offer: £32,000 (2-box)
Box value: £250,000

When Katie first appeared on the wings, audience regular John stated on the forum that she would become a DOND legend, leading many to believe she would win big money (which is the standard hot-key response to teasers like this). Throughout the game, the offers were low, which, like with Dave last weekend, showed that the Banker thought he could get her cheap. Which he did. She settled for £8,000 at 8-box with the £250,000, £75,000, £50,000 and five blues left. After an intriguing proveout, Katie was left with a final two of 1p and the £250,000, or the 'Scream ending', as it has now become known after a suggestion from the afore-mentioned John. Noel opened Katie's box to reveal the £250,000, thus cementing her place in the history as the show's 'biggest loser', or, the person who sold the £250,000 for the smallest sum. Which is a shame, as she was a nice girl; just a shame she became a DOND legend for that reason.

Thursday 5th: Patrick

Winnings: £11,000
Dealt at: 8-box
Highest offer: £20,000 (5-box)
Box value: £5

As was mentioned on the forum, Patrick's game will probably be remembered more for an incident early on, where two pilgrims got into trouble for taking pictures on set, and posting them on Twitter, resulting Noel getting them to apologise to the Banker! After a horrible opening round with the £250,000, £100,000 and £50,000 going, Patrick managed to hold on to the two remaining Power 5 sums to 8-box, which saw an offer of £11,000. After much deliberation, including an assertion that it was 'the toughest decision he had faced, Patrick dealt. Alas, he could have had a bit more had he played on another round, but the game collapsed after 5-box, so a fairly respectable result from a respectable game.

Friday 6th: Dot

Winnings: £7,500
Dealt at: 3-box (extra offer)
Highest offer: £14,000 (14-box)
Box value: £1,000

At 91, Dot is one of the oldest people ever to play DOND (the oldest being Joe Britton, who was 97 when he played in 2009). It looked like Dot's game was running out of luck, with only £75,000 left among the big sums at 5-box. But then the Banker told her she could open one box, and if she missed the £75,000, he would offer her £6,000, which would be enough for her to go visit family in New Zealand. She missed it, but the Banker actually offered her £7,500, which she very sensibly dealt. And her decision was immediately justified when the £75,000 went immediately after the deal. Lovely game to conclude the working week.

Sunday 8th: Aaron

Winnings: £3,000
Opened the box
Highest offer: £8,500 (14-box)
Box value: £3,000

Before the game began, the Banker told Aaron that, if he found the 1p in the first round, he would give everyone in the studio a bottle of champagne. Alas, he found the £250,000 instead, which usually happens when the Banker adds this incentive. The rest of the game was incredibly unlucky, with the top of the game going in every single round after 14-box. Faced with a final two of £3,000 and £10, the Banker offered £1,100. Aaron initially seemed to be hinting at a deal, but then the Banker told him that, if he won the £3,000 from his box, he would give everyone the champagne they missed out on in the first round. This seemed to be enough to persuade Aaron to gamble, and, pleasingly, Noel revealed the £3,000 in his box, bringing the week to a positive end, with everyone getting a bottle of bubbly!

So, again, as had been the case in recent times, no truly spectacular wins, but mostly decent results throughout the week. Normally, this would be one of the final weeks before the show's Summer Break. However, it is not having one this year. The reasoning is currently unclear; I may decide to discuss this in greater detail later in the week.
